The Squarespace platform is constantly evolving to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers. We’re committed to creating a comprehensive, user-friendly, and design-forward tool for anyone to establish an online presence.

That’s why, at any given time, there are multiple versions of our platform. Knowing which Squarespace version your site is on is useful for troubleshooting and deepening your knowledge of the platform’s capabilities. Learn more about Squarespace versions:

What is the current version of Squarespace?

We’re always expanding, improving, and innovating new platform capabilities, and new versions enable us to share the most up-to-date tools and features with our customers.

As of today, there are three Squarespace platforms in use: Squarespace version 7.1, Squarespace version 7.0, and Squarespace version 5. We launched version 5 in 2008, version 7.0 in 2014, and version 7.1 in 2020. The differences between platforms vary, but our most recent platform, version 7.1, is updated with a focus on usability and design, including features like font and color packs to help streamline your site’s visual identity.

If you’re curious, you can learn more about the differences between Squarespace version 5 and Squarespace version 7.0, and Squarespace version 7.1 and version 7.0

How do I know which Squarespace version I’m using?

There are two ways to figure out which version your site is on. If you can log into your site with your Squarespace account name, you’re using version 5. If you’re not able to do this, you’re either using version 7.0 or 7.1. As a rule of thumb, sites built as of 2020 are usually on version 7.1.

If you’re not sure whether you’re using version 7.0 or version 7.1, you can log into your site and click Help in the left panel. If you’re on version 7.0, the dropdown will list your platform, as well as your site’s template name. Version 7.1 users will only see their platform listed, because all version 7.1 templates support the same features and functionality.

Will the version I’m using automatically update when a newer platform becomes available?

Switching to the most current platform isn’t automated, but our 24/7 Customer Support team can guide you through the process. You can also sign up for a free, expert-led webinar to get started on version 7.1.

Is one Squarespace version better than another?

To have access to Squarespace’s most up-to-date features, we recommend using version 7.1. As our most recent platform, version 7.1 features are regularly being improved, and new releases and functionalities are underway. Learn more by comparing the features offered by version 7.0 and version 7.1.
