The nimbleness of running a small business offers the opportunity for endless edits, improvements, and growth. So, how do you know where to focus your energy to get the best outcomes from your optimization efforts?

If you run a service-based business, appointment packages are the key. By bundling together your most frequently-booked services and giving your clients the opportunity to pay for several appointments at once, you can increase your revenue and begin scaling your business.

What are appointment packages?

Appointment packages are a pre-defined bundle of your services that you can sell to clients. Packages are different from one-off client bookings because purchasing a package requires payment in full for multiple appointments, up front.

Typically, packages are bundles of a business’s most popular service. For example, if a salon gets a lot of business for walk-in bang trims, they may start offering an appointment package of 10 bang trims for the price of nine.

Not only does this encourage their reputation of being the go-to salon for stylish fringe, but it encourages clients to continually come back, while creating upfront revenue when each new bang trim bundle is purchased.

How appointment packages work

When someone buys an appointment package with your business, they receive an automatically-generated code in their inbox, which they use each time they book an appointment with you. Each appointment scheduled is then deducted from their code balance.

For example, if an appointment package includes eight hot stone massages, each time the client enters their code during booking, one massage will be deducted from their eight-massage bundle.

Acuity Scheduling offers four different ways to set up packages, so you can choose the option that works best for you—and for your clients. Acuity users are able to set up packages that allow clients to do one of the following:

  • Redeem a certain number of appointments

  • Book appointments that total a certain number of minutes

  • Reserve sessions up to a specific dollar amount

  • Book unlimited appointments with their code

Customizable options empower you to design packages that suit your specific needs. Ready to set up your first appointment package?

Cancellation & rescheduling policy reminders

Appointment packages require clients to commit to a certain number of sessions at their time of payment. Inevitably, once they start to schedule those sessions, situations will arise that may require referring back to your cancellation and rescheduling policy

A cancellation and rescheduling policy is something you should always have your clients agree to when they purchase their appointment package. Having clear, detailed cancellation and rescheduling policies allows for greater ease of booking with you. These policies also let clients know that you are understanding of the occasional need to change an appointment.

If you have not already done so, set up and review your cancellation and rescheduling policies. This comprehensive guide on how to create a cancellation policy can provide extra insight while you fine-tune these policies.
